TWO former Western Jets finished in the top-10 of Richmond’s best-and-fairest count at the Crown Palladium last night.
Father-son Steven Morris ran seventh in the Jack Dyer Medal voting with 191 votes, while dashing defender Bachar Houli came equal 10th with midfielder Dustin Martin on 170.
Morris, 23, a hard-nosed operator in the back half, has impressed in his first season at AFL level since being plucked out of the SANFL, where he won a best-and-fairest with West Adelaide.
He took home the Bill Cosgrove/Harry Jenkins Best First Year Player trophy as a reward for his consistent rookie campaign.
The mature-aged recruit is the son of Kevin Morris, who played in back-to-back premierships with the Tigers in 1973-74 and won the club’s best-and-fairest in 1975.
Houli is in his second year at Punt Road.
The exciting 24-year-old has thrived in the yellow and black since crossing from Essendon at the start of 2011.
The half-back flanker brings the Tiger Army to their feet when he burst out of defence and puts the ball on his long and raking left foot.
Houli’s work in the community was highlighted with the David Mandie Community Award.
