Attack warning for dog owners

Williamstown resident Nola Anderson has warned dog owners to be vigilant after her pet was attacked near Williamstown’s Gloucester Reserve. Ms Anderson’s four-year-old shih tzu-cross Tia was attacked by two rottweilers about 11am on August 25. She had been walking between Williamstown Swimming and Life Saving Club and Bayview Street when the dogs rushed at Tia. “One got her on the neck and the other on the back,” Ms Anderson said. “The one around her neck, she was lucky it didn’t sever the main artery. But the one on her chest was worse; it pulled the muscle off the bone. The woman [one of the rottweiler’s owners] was hysterical. She put her hand in her dog’s mouth to stop it.” Ms Anderson said it was realised later how badly Tia was injured. Hobsons Bay has 21 registered restricted-breed dogs. Last year there were 29 reported dog attacks on people and 48 on dogs or other animals.
