BASHED Altona bookshop owner Jill Brookes has been discharged from hospital and admitted to a rehabilitation centre in Kew.
Ms Brookes, 61, has still not been able to speak to police 54 days after her skull was crushed in a “frenzied” attack on July 20.
She was found in a pool of blood at her West Side Stories shop in Harrington Square.
Detective Sergeant Brad Lawrence, of the Hobsons Bay crime investigation unit, said finding Ms Brookes’ assailant was a priority.
“She’s been moved from The Alfred hospital to a rehabilitation hospital where her recovery will continue to progress, hopefully,” he said.
“We haven’t been in a position to speak to her, but we remain hopeful we will be able to . . . certainly, she’s not in a position at this stage and we will be guided by hospital staff and family.”
Only immediate family are allowed to visit.
Police are seeking CCTV footage from homes or businesses near Harrington Square.
An Australia Post worker told the Weekly that Ms Brookes’ black backpack was missing after the assault.
