Missing man’s body found in river

Police believe the body of a man found in the Maribyrnong River last Sunday is missing 37-year-old Taylors Lakes resident David Stojcevski. Water Police found the body near Maribyrnong Road about 10.30am a week after Mr Stojcevski disappeared while attempting to swim across the river. Police do not believe the death is suspicious.

Child recovering after two-day ordeal

A 15-month old boy was rescued from a Yarraville unit where he was left alone with the body of his deceased 25-year-old mother for almost two days. The child is recovering from dehydration at the Royal Children’s Hospital. An off-duty police member discovered the woman and child in a Tongue Street unit about 9pm last Wednesday. A passerby reported seeing the woman’s body through a window.

Support coppers at Maccas

Residents are being urged to ‘Drive Thru for Blue’ at Footscray McDonald’s on Friday. For every car that passes through the drive-through from 6-7pm, the store will donate $1 to the Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation. Police will help serve customers and raise funds towards an improved Emergency Department at Western Hospital in Footscray.

Sinking Village plan gets go ahead

Maribyrnong Council has endorsed a landscape master plan for a new community park, known as the Sinking Village, on vacant land at 276-280 High Street in Yarraville. The council will spend $150,000 on lawn, pathways, seating, signs and trees, plus another $300,000 in coming years.

Western Health has a new chief

Alex Cockram will be the new chief executive of Western Health from October 1, replacing Kathryn Cook. Associate Professor Cockram has been executive director of New South Wales and Victorian health service organisations for the past 12 years and is executive director of North Western Mental Health.

East West Link election promise

Federal opposition leader Tony Abbott has promised a Coalition government would spend $1.5 billion on the east-west link project if elected.
