IF elected to Hobsons Bay Council next month, the Greens will push for commuters to be able to use a zone 1 ticket to travel on the ferry from Spotswood to Port Melbourne.
Three Greens-endorsed candidates have been announced for the October 27 election.
Cyclists and pedestrians who use the Westgate Punt service are now charged $5 one way and $7 return.
The zone 1 ticketing idea has been mooted by Susan Miller, the Greens-endorsed candidate for Strand ward. “Specifically, I will lobby for Westgate Punt fares to be included in zone 1 ticketing and for improved cross-municipality bus services for the whole of Hobsons Bay,” she said.
“I will work to develop a network of safe-cycle paths and crossings, particularly around schools, and programs which encourage more children to ride to school.”
Ms Miller, along with fellow Greens candidates, is also calling for a return to respect and positivity on council.
Rod Solin has been endorsed by the Greens to stand in Wetlands ward.
Cherry Lake ward candidate Diana Rice said she was sick of reading about councillors feuding.
“I personally have grown tired of reading in the local newspapers about the endless conflict between councillors and think it’s about time that we had more news about the positive achievements of a council working together productively, and fewer displays of temper tantrums in the chamber.”
