MUSIC lover Graeme Dickenson can often be seen rummaging through boxes of records at garage sales, but he can also be heard over the airwaves.
The Altona resident will celebrate 20 years as a presenter on the radio show Let it be Beatles on Monday.
Created to fill in for a football program on 3WRB (now Stereo 974), the show has had 16 presenters through the years.
But Mr Dickenson, who has remained a constant, says he never tires of talking about the iconic Beatles.
“It’s an analytical show,” he explains. “There’s always a lot to talk about, always something happening and something being released, so we debate those things.
“We take a democratic view of the music rather than say everything is great, and listeners appreciate that.”
Over the years, the show has had exclusive interviews with George Harrison, George Martin, Sean Lennon, and photographers Astrid Kirchherr and Robert Whitaker. Ian Meldrum, Russell Morris, and Daryl Cotton have also shared their stories about the famous foursome.
An avid collector, Mr Dickenson has 20,000 CDs, 10,000 records, football cards, and silent films from the early 1900s. “I’m just really fascinated by history,” he says. Tune into the Let it be Beatles for its 20th anniversary show on Monday between 10pm and midnight.
