Super fund debt lowered

Maribyrnong Council will draw on money set aside for staff payments to tackle its unfunded superannuation liability of $7.7 million. The decision provides an early payment discount of $445,856, whittled down to $146,856 once lost interest is taken into account. Council CEO Vince Haining said the liability stemmed from a compulsory fixed superannuation scheme.

Deaths on duty not forgotten

Community leaders came together at Whitten Oval on Friday’s Police Blue Ribbon Day to remember the state’s 157 police officers who have been killed on duty. Williamstown MP Wade Noonan also paid tribute to the work of the police Blue Ribbon Foundation, chaired by his father Bill Noonan. “The Westgate branch of the foundation is raising funds to upgrade the emergency facilities at Western Hospital in Footscray.”

‘Thirteen’ lucky number for artists

A western suburbs student-run record label has followed up last year’s award-winning release with a new compilation of local artists. Potential Unlimited 5 features 13 tracks from local talents Oscar + Martin and House Vs Hurricane with other promising artists. Potential Unlimited 5 will be launched at Kindred Studios in Yarraville at 6.30pm tomorrow with performances by featured bands.
