CANCER survivors and carers will be leading the charge this weekend for Maribyrnong’s inaugural Relay For Life event at Whitten Oval.
The Cancer Council Victoria fund-raiser is a chance to to celebrate survivors, remember lost loved ones and fight back against cancer.
Relay For Life co-ordinator Amanda Glossop said 268 Maribyrnong residents were diagnosed with cancer last year.
Money raised helps support local cancer patients and their families, including critical research and community education programs.
“The Maribyrnong Relay For Life will also be the first opportunity to camp out overnight at Whitten Oval,” Ms Glossop said.
Teams of 10 or more try to keep a baton moving around the track for 18 hours from 4pm, Saturday, to 10am, Sunday. Survivors and carers start the event with the opening lap before a celebratory afternoon tea at 4.30pm.
