In 2012, Overnewton celebrated its 25th year of providing first-rate affordable education in the north-west of Melbourne. This is a significant milestone for any school and one that has been celebrated with pride and gratitude.
Among the many special events that took place this year was the official opening in April of the new junior school at the Keilor campus, housing 480 students from prep to year 4.
Other significant events have been:
■ A College Founders Day service in the Taylors Lakes campus
■ A silver anniversary gala ball
■ A college performing arts concert in August, which brought together students, staff and old collegians.
As we reflect back on the important features of the new school that our founders set in place in the late 1980s, we should be most grateful for the strength of the relationships between the family and the school. This has always been a crucial aspect of an Overnewton education.
In spite of the increase in size of the college over our 25 years, this relationship continues to be strong and is at the centre of all interactions with students.
I feel privileged to be part of a community whose connections are strong and deep. And I rejoice that Overnewton is a school for the whole family. It is they and us that provide the best possible start in life for the children of our community. Interested families are always welcome to visit the college to take part in a weekly scheduled tour.
