A YUM cha fund-raiser has raised close to $20,000 for BreastWest to support breast cancer patients. More than 300 people turned out for the annual event at Maribyrnong’s Plume restaurant earlier this month.
Survivor Kelly Towers told the audience her world changed when she was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago.
“People told me it would be hard, but the support I have received from Western Health and BreastWest has given me a different outlook on life,” she said. “I lost my hair and thought, how do I go out [looking] like this? But they gave me a voucher and had a wig made up that looked just like my hair. It made my journey easier; I felt like me. You are still yourself; this is just something happening to you.”
BreastWest provides direct practical support to women who have been diagnosed with and are receiving treatment for breast cancer at Western Health. Help includes vouchers for mastectomy bras, wigs and well-being classes.
