Haddara jailed over ‘shot-in-the-face’ mistake

A MAN who mistakenly shot his cousin in the face when he thought he was
shooting a member of a rival family has been jailed for more than eight
years.

Waleed Haddara, 28, was found guilty by a jury of intentionally causing
serious injury to Sabet Haddara, and reckless conduct placing Antonio Sawan in
danger of serious injury, over the Altona North shooting on the night of June 6,
2010.

Haddara fired six shots into the car after mistakenly believing a member of
the Chaouk family was inside. The trial heard Matwali Chaouk had fired shots at
him from his car about six months earlier.

Justice Stephen Kaye sentenced him to eight years and six months jail over
the incident, with a minimum of five years and four months.
