Dancing like a boss

From a hall in Laverton to the television screen, youth workers Junior, Alex, Chuck, Te and Jese are bringing their best dance moves to a new television show.

The five men will star in the upcoming program Dance Boss, a competition which will pit 12 teams of amateur dancers from different professions against each other, in a bid to win a $100,000 prize.

The members of the “Youth Workers” team, who hail from the Wyndham and Hobsons Bay areas, are also part of the Raw & Rugged Dance Crew.

Team leader Junior and his wife Bridgette founded the crew in 2011 to provide young people from the west with access to dance and cultural activities.

The crew started out at a Laverton basketball court and nowadays trains at the Laverton Active Hall.

In their roles as youth workers, Junior, Alex, Chuck, Te and Jese also work with the Victoria Maori Wardens, a group of volunteers who engage with young people.

“We work a lot with at-risk kids, we want to give them the opportunity to be the best version of themselves that they can be,” Junior said.

When it comes to

Dance Boss, Chuck said he and the other youth workers hoped to “go home with no regrets and have fun”.

Dance Boss will air on Monday, August 6 at 7.30pm on Channel Seven.
