Wyndham councillor Intaj Khan’s day in court has been postponed – for now.
Cr Khan, who was due to front the Werribee Magistrate’s Court last Wednesday for an initial hearing to answer charges relating to the filing of register of interest returns and the non-disclosure of relevant information in the returns filed between February, 2016, and February, 2017, was granted an adjournment. The case has been rescheduled for November 21.
In August, the Local Government Investigations and Compliance Inspectorate announced Cr Khan had been charged with three counts of failing to disclose companies in which he held office during the return period; three counts of failing to disclose companies in which he held a financial interest; two counts of failing to submit ordinary returns; and one count of failing to disclose property holdings.
One of the nine charges, which related to failing to disclose property holdings, has since been dropped.
Cr Khan, who did not appear in court last week, did not respond to
Star Weekly’s attempts to contact him.
His lawyer, Nick Galatas, said it was common for legal matters to be adjourned at an initial hearing, adding that
Cr Khan needed more time to consider the prosecution’s case.
