One bandit still at large after milk bar arrest

Police have arrested one man and are searching for his alleged accomplice after a cash register was stolen from a West Footscray milk bar.

Police say two men, armed with a knife and a tomahawk, entered the Palmerston Street milk bar about 6.15pm on January 24.

Senior Constable Melissa Seach said one of the bandits jumped the counter and stole the cash register after the attendant locked herself in a rear room.

The thieves were last seen running east on Alma Street.

Investigators from the Altona North Embona Armed Robbery Taskforce arrested a 37-year-old man at a West Footscray house about 6pm Friday.

The other alleged offender remains on the run. Investigations are ongoing.
