Reserve some fun

Taylors Hill residents will soon have even more reasons to get outdoors, with works under way on two new recreation spaces.

Bloomsbury Drive Reserve and Morton Homestead will have new playground equipment installed, picnic and barbecue facilities and landscaping.

Bloomsbury Drive Reserve will also have a quarter basketball court, while a special feature at Morton Homestead will be a community garden, which the Taylors Hill Men’s Shed will help look after.

Melton mayor Bob Turner and local MP Natalie Hutchins turned the first sod at the two sites recently.

Cr Turner said he was excited to see the projects come to fruition.

“It’s really exciting to begin two more projects that will connect people and encourage outdoor activity in the City of Melton,” Cr Turner said.

“Early next year, these spaces will be ready for residents and visitors alike to run and play, garden, and share picnics and barbecues.”

The state government provided $265,000 to the Morton Homestead site and $405,000 to the Bloomsbury Reserve site, both from the Growing Suburbs Fund.

The council matched the funds for both projects.

The Bloomsbury Drive Reserve development is expected to be complete by March 2020 and Morton Homestead by February 2020.
