Retired champion racehorse Subzero did a lap of Hobsons Bay schools last week.
Affectionately known as Subbie, the gentle gelding won the 1992 Melbourne Cup.
Upon retirement from racing, he was a clerk of the course horse for his owner Graham Salisbury, and his role was to control the horses and take care of any difficulties on race days.
Now, Subbie visits schools as an ambassador for Racing Victoria’s champion racehorse program, educating children about equine health, anatomy and safety.
Last week, he visited Newport Gardens Primary School, Altona North Primary School and St Leo the Great Primary School, also in Altona North.
