Take a winter dip at Altona beach

Winter is here and Tom Wasiek couldn’t be more chilled about it.

The personal trainer is hosting The Winter Dip, a public event at which people will jump into the sea at Altona beach.

“I’m a trainer, but this is non-profit,” he said. “I just want to promote a healthy lifestyle for the local community and want people to come out.

“The Winter Dip started last year and I want to keep growing it. I’d love the locals to come out and get involved. There’s a lot of health benefits,” he said.

“It’s proven to boost your white blood cells, your immune system, your testosterone level. It’s good for your skin. The water is probably sitting at about 15 degrees now; it drops down to maybe 12.”

Mr Wasiek plans to make The Winter Dip a weekly event, with the first immersion scheduled for June 8 at 5pm.

Meet at the start of Altona Pier.
