Setting Sun Short Film Festival to rise again

The west’s biggest short-film festival will rise again next year as the Setting Sun Short Film Festival returns to Yarraville.

The Sun Theatre will host the festival for the fourth year running, from April 27-30.

Actor Shane Jacobson, western suburbs born and bred, features in a trailer on the festival website discussing the role short films and The Sun Theatre have played in his career and the success of his breakthrough film Kenny.

Festival director Anna Bourozikas says more than $5000 in prizes will be up for grabs in categories including short feature, documentary, comedy and acting.

“This year’s festival has more to offer the filmmakers and the general community,” she said. “We’re proud to be the only festival in the west that showcases the talents of our filmmaking community, young and old, as well as the best from around Australia.”

Ms Bourozikas says long-time festival supporter Victoria University has become the principal partner, sponsoring the secondary school filmmaker program, The Rising Sun, which is open to all secondary school students around Australia.

“We’ve enjoyed a really high standard of films in this section,” Ms Bourozikas said.

Films of up to 12 minutes can be entered until January 31, 2017. More details are at: settingsunshortfilmfestival.com.au
