Suspicious Altona North fire

Police will investigate the cause of a suspicious fire that has badly damaged a vacant home in Altona North.

Fire Rescue Victoria responded to a call regarding the Ronald Ave fire about 1.45am on Thursday, arriving on scene within six minutes of receiving the call to find the home totally engulfed in fire.

Firefighters worked quickly to get water lines on the single storey brick veneer duplex unit, including a neighbouring home which was under threat.

One unit suffered extensive damage including damage to the roof structure, which impacted the other unit.

The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

It took 30 firefighters nearly 30 minutes to control the fire, which has been deemed suspicious.

Once the site is determined to be safe it will be passed over to police to investigate the cause.
