Hobsons Bay council have launched a new program enabling residents to raise concerns and ask questions about council initiatives in a more personal way.

Coffee with a Councillor invites residents to enjoy a free coffee in a local space with one of the Hobsons Bay councillors, where key projects and issues can be discussed face-to-face.

The program will run each month until October with the first event to be held with Cherry Lake Ward Councillor Tony Briffa on Saturday April 30, from 12.30pm to 2.30pm at Ransom Reserve in Altona.

Members of the council’s customer service team, the traffic team, project managers and community engagement teams will also be onsite to assist and to answer questions.

Hobsons Bay mayor Peter Hemphill said the Coffee with a Councillor program is all about providing opportunities to engage with the community as the municipality continues to recover from COVID-19.

“Councillors are looking forward to face-to-face events and meeting members of our wonderful community,” he said.

“For the past two years, we’ve had limited opportunity to attend events, community workshops and engagement sessions. We’re excited to get back into the community in-person and hear your feedback, ideas and concerns.”

Other upcoming Coffee with a Councillor events include Cr Matt Tyler, Wetlands Ward, on May 7 at Homestead Run, Seabrook and Cr Hemphill, Strand Ward on June 17 at Edwards Reserve, South Kingsville.

Future events will be announced on councils website and via its social media channels.

Residents are asked to email council prior to the event if there is a particular project they would like to talk about via communityengagement@hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au.
