The state government will provide a substantial investment into freight, ports and piers in Victoria, with upgrades to piers in Williamstown included in the new 2022-23 budget.
The budget, announced on May 3, outlined an $18 million package of works that will benefit communities along Victoria coastline who rely on their beautiful piers and jetties.
Williamstown has been named as be one of the communities whose piers will receive rebuilding and safety works, alongside other beachside towns such as Rye, Flinders, McLoughlins Beach,
Raymond Island, Lakes Entrance and Mornington.
Due to the fact that many of these piers were built over 50 years ago, these works will make sure they stay safe for community use for as long as possible.
“Piers and jetties are an iconic part of Victoria’s coastline and an important focal point for many local families, communities and businesses – we’ll keep them in the best shape so they can be enjoyed for years to come,” said Williamstown MP and minister for fishing and boating Melissa Horne.
