Maribyrnong council has scheduled a community forum to inform the public on the process of creating the McIvor Reserve Masterplan and open the floor to questions around the potential for an indoor sports facility on the site.
Acting chief executive Laura-Jo Mellan said the council would host the forum online via Zoom next Monday, August 8 from 6pm to 8pm.
The council has also undertaken maintenance works at the reserve to fix a gate latch leading to the sport fields, install granitic gravel inside the western gate and install turf sand to a number of muddy areas within the central area of the reserve.
Friends of McIvor Reserve representative Shari Liby said the group was aiming to discuss broader drainage and potential surface water contamination issues with the council.
“Contaminated water on the ground at the Reserve would be a very big health risk for the children playing on the sports field and all of the rest of this who walk there, sit on the grass, or take home our wet dogs,” she said.
Ms Jo-Mellan said contaminated land was an ongoing issue for the council.
“A comprehensive environmental assessment has, however, not been undertaken at McIvor Reserve, though council is aware of the findings of reports commissioned by both the developers of the Bradmill site and state government in relation to their projects and specific to their sites,” she said.
