Roosters get big win

Altona Roosters had little trouble accounting for Keilor Park in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association division 2 on Saturday.

The Roosters, who had one win from their first three matches, put in a strong performance with the ball and then the bat against the Devils.

The Roosters had the Devils in trouble at 3-33 before putting on 35 for the fourth wicket partnership.

Wickets then started to fall, with the Devils losing 7-57 to be bowled out for 125. Matthew Short bowled just 4.1 overs, but it was all he needed, taking 3-12.

The Roosters started well with the bat and had little trouble on the way to hitting the winning runs with more than eight overs remaining.

The Roosters finished 3-127. Leigh Lewis top scored with 27 as all the batters who got out in the middle got starts.

The win moves the Roosters to second on the ladder behind an undefeated Altona Footscray United.

The Bulldogs continued their winning ways on Saturday, beating West Newport.

West Newport made 8-191 from its 40 overs with Josh McDonald top scoring with 75.

Daniel Melican was the pick of the bowlers for the Bulldogs with four wickets.

The Bulldogs got off to a poor start losing a wicket without scoring, but it was only a hiccup as they went on to make 7-192.

Lahiru Kumara top scored with 51.

West Newport shared the wickets around with three players taking two wickets each.

Williamstown CYMS got its first win of the season, beating Newport-Digman.

The CYs made 9-162 from their 40 overs with Matthew Allsop top scoring with 36 at the top of the order.

The CYs now sit in eighth spot, with Newport-Digman in the spot higher.
