Attempted carjacking in Yarraville

Police are appealing for public assistance following an attempted carjacking in Yarraville on Sunday, January 8.

Police said an unknown man approached the male victim while he was reversing his vehicle at a home on Stephen Street at about 4.30pm, entered the vehicle and demanded the vehicle.

According to police, the man then assaulted the victim.

Two witnesses then assisted by temporarily holding the man down on the ground, before the man fled on foot towards Lennox Street

Detectives believe the man approached the victim from either Knox Street or Castlemaine Street.

Police said the man is Caucasian in appearance, 30 to 40 years old, 177 centimetres tall with light-coloured hair balding at the back and was wearing a dark coloured jumper, black shorts, blue shoes and was carrying a brown satchel at the time of the incident.
