War stories set in stone at Footscray

THE sacrifices made by the men and women who died in the two World Wars must never be forgotten, says Footscray veteran Ron Palmer.

Mr Palmer, Footscray Historical Society president and an ex-RAAF officer, is adding his voice to Maribyrnong Council’s call for stories, photos and information about local soldiers to be commemorated on memorial plaques.

He has welcomed the relocation of neglected memorial plaques from Geelong Road in West Footscray to Footscray Park in time for Remembrance Day on Sunday.

In preparation for the official launch next Anzac Day, the council is asking residents to share stories and photos of the service men and women.
