POLICE officers and youth from troubled backgrounds faced off last week and the youngsters came off victorious.
Victoria Police and Les Twentyman’s 20th Man Fund held the second annual Cops versus Kids Twenty20 cricket match in Footscray. The match is used to break down the barriers between police and local youths through fun and friendly competition. Chief Commissioner Ken Lay took a tumble going for his first run but went on to make 13 before running himself out after pulling a muscle trying to sneak a run.
The police team managed 102. The Merv Hughes-captained youth side, with a little help from the Victorian Bushrangers, passed the total in the 19th over.
