Bikies shot at Yarraville clubhouse

Bros Motorcyle Club in Yarraville

One man is fighting for his life and another is seriously injured after they were gunned down outside the Bros outlaw motorcycle gang clubhouse in Yarraville early Saturday.

A 38-year-old man from Altona and a 37-year-old man from Herne Hill were both taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with serious injuries after being shot in Campbell Street about 1.40am.

One of the men suffered life-threatening injuries after being shot in the stomach and the other is in a serious condition after being shot in the leg.

Armed Crime Squad and Echo Taskforce detectives are at the scene.

Shooters have previously targeted the clubhouse in 2013, leaving the building’s front door and garage roller-door both riddled with bullets.

In 2014, police ordered the club remove heavy security measures from the clubhouse including steel bollards, doors and bars, strengthened glass and CCTV cameras.

Police are investigating whether a second shooting in Melbourne’s north hours later may be linked to the Yarraville attack.

Police were called to Hadfield following reports of gunfire about 5.20am.

A 36-year-old man with gunshot wounds to his leg was found at the intersection of Eileen and West streets and taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Highly concerning

Echo Taskforce Detective Sergeant Steven Finnerty told the ABC the man was on his way to work when he was shot in the leg.

He said police don’t believe the shootings are linked but are “keeping our minds open.”

He said the two shootings were “highly concerning” to police.

“It is occurring in public places and whilst these may or may not be targeted crimes, there’s a possibility that people who have nothing to do with these types of things may come across it or unfortunately become victims of it,” he said.
