Vernon Street shopping centre plan under discussion

An information session on the Vernon Street shopping centre in South Kingsville will be held next week.

As reported by the Weekly in September, a trader says his business has halved since Hobsons Bay council made Vernon Street one-way.

Elly ‘Big Al’ Haddad said customers had abandoned his shop because it was no longer easy to access.

Restaurateur Jimmy Marwaha said his diners complained that they had to park in nearby Kernot Street.

The council has developed a draft concept plan for the street and will hold an information forum from 6-7.30pm on December 5 at South Kingsville Community Centre. Community members are invited to view and provide feedback on the plan, which is on public exhibition until January 14.

It may be viewed online or by contacting the council’s recreation and community facilities department on recadmin@hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au or call 9932 1000.
