Kids get circus lessons in the art of play

The Footscray-based Women’s Circus has teamed up with local children to breathe new life into the west’s public playgrounds.

In the Art of Play project at Braybrook’s Skinner Reserve, children from Western English Language School and Dinjerra Primary School are being encouraged to lead playground adventures with circus arts, music and theatre improvisation.

Catherine Leahy, prep/year one Dinjerra Primary School teacher, said “playrangers” bring along items like hula-hoops and bells to engage the children. The project is funded by VicHealth’s MOTION program, and Maribyrnong council is a partner.

The final Art of Play weekly event, “PlayTime”, will be held 9.30-11.30am on Friday, March 28, at Skinner Reserve, Churchill Avenue, beside the Braybrook Community Centre.
