Footscray fire: Two men seen running from suspicious blaze

Two men were seen running from a fire at a block of units in Footscray that police believe was deliberately lit.

Fire crews were called to the block of 10 units on Empire Street about 9.30 on Friday night to find an unoccupied unit in flames.

The fire was quickly brought under control, but not before it caused about $30,000 of damage.

Metropolitan Fire Brigade senior station officer Damian Bourke told Radio 3AW that neighbours saw two men running from the area about the time the fire started.

“Because it was late at night there’s no description of the men, but just the number of men was two,” Mr Bourke said.

He said a number of aerosol cans were left in the unit.
