Altona Homestead among open houses

From a former schoolhouse to a ‘garden city’, a number of spaces will be open for free this weekend as part of the Open House Melbourne event.

This year’s locations will be:

* Altona Homestead – Saturday, July 30, 11am to 2pm – Logan Reserve, Altona;

* The former Laverton School – Sunday, July 31, 10am to 4pm – 43 Kiora Street, Altona Meadows;

* Modscape – Modular Design Hub – Saturday, July 30, 11am – 430 Francis Street, Brooklyn;

* Passive House – Saturday, July 30, 8.30am to noon – 13 Forrest Street, Spotswood;

* Park Life – Saturday, July 30 – tours run 10am to 4pm on the hour – Park Crescent, Williamstown North;

* Blunt’s Boat Shed – Saturday, July 30 – 10am to 4pm – 150 Nelson Place, Williamstown;

* A former morgue – Sunday, July 31 – 10am to 4pm – Seaworks, 82 Nelson Place, Williamstown;

* HMAS Castlemaine – Saturday, July 30 and Sunday, July 31 – 10.30am to 4pm – Gem Pier, Williamstown; and

* Williamstown Town Hall – Sunday, July 31 2022 – 10am to 4pm – tours from 2pm – 104 Ferguson Street, Williamstown.

Hobsons Bay mayor Peter Hemphill said the event is a chance for community members to discover some of the area’s hidden gems.

“Through Open House Melbourne, we can highlight Hobsons Bay’s heritage and showcase the impressive and diverse design and architecture across the municipality,” he said.

“I encourage everyone to take part and explore the city with a different lens.

“It’s an opportunity to celebrate the design, history and architecture of our diverse landscape.”
