Boats at Williamstown have sunk as wild winds lash Melbourne.

It comes as a section of Altona pier broke off overnight on Wednesday.

Wind gusts of 96 km/h were recorded over Port Phillip Bay overnight.

Williamstown boat owner Russell Marsh captured the moment the vessels sunk.
