Fire engulfs Newport home

A Newport home has suffered significant damage after a fire broke out about 7.45am today.

Fire Rescue Victoria received multiple triple zero calls after the fire broke out in the Blackshaws Road house.

Fire trucks arrived on scene within five minutes to find the weatherboard home well involved in fire and threatening an adjacent property.

Almost 30 firefighters quickly established water hose lines to prevent spread to the adjoining property and contain the fire.

The fire was brought under control in 33 minutes.

A man was assessed by Ambulance Victoria at the scene for smoke inhalation and later released.

The rear section of the house and roof has suffered significant damage from the fire. The cause of the fire will be determined by specialist fire investigators.
