Fire not yet under control

Firefighters continue to battle a fire at a factory in Laverton North, which is not yet under control.

Crews evacuated the cardboard recycling factory and neighbouring businesses in Plummer Road, with no injuries reported.

Specialist equipment including an aerial appliance and hazmat unit are being used to respond to the incident, along with several pumper fire trucks.

Drones will soon be deployed to provide an aerial view of the scene.

According to a Fire Rescue Victoria spokesperson, the fuel load is extensive and needs to be broken apart to fully extinguish the blaze.

Ambulance Victoria paramedics are on site to monitor firefighter health and safety. Victoria Police personnel are also on scene.

A community warning was issued for smoke in the areas of Derrimut, Laverton North, Sunshine West.
