Homicide detectives investigate death of a man in Williamstown

A Wyndham Vale woman has been charged with murder over the fatal stabbing of a man in Williamstown on Friday.

Police and paramedics attended an apartment at the Old Royal Hotel in Nelson Place about 9.50am where they found 37-year-old resident Danny O’Brien on his bedroom floor with multiple stab wounds.

He was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.

Kerry Jones, 38, handed herself in to the police station across the road a short time later.

Police say the pair knew each other.

Jones was charged with murder on Friday night and appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates Court for a brief hearing on Saturday morning.

She did not apply for bail and was remanded to appear in court at a later date.

A resident who asked not to be named said there were frequently problems at the Old Royal Hotel, which she said housed about 18 people.

“Residents … have been trying to close this place down for years,” she said.

Yarra Community Housing, which is responsible for the property, has been contacted for comment.
