Maidstone man charged after fatal crash

Victoria Police have charged a 71-year-old Maidstone man with a string of alleged offences.

Victoria Police have charged a 71-year-old Maidstone man with a string of alleged offences following a fatal collision in Avondale Heights last year.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said the collision occurred at about 3.50 pm on October 21 last year.

“Emergency services were called to Military Road following reports of a collision between a car and motorbike,” the spokesperson said.

“The driver of the car, a 71-year-old Maidstone man, formally of Maribyrnong, has been charged with dangerous driving causing death, dangerous driving causing serious injury, failing to give way and careless driving.

“The passenger on the motorcycle, a 25-year-old Beveridge woman, died at the scene.”

The spokesperson said the rider of the motorcycle, a 24-year-old Heidelberg Heights man, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The 71-year-old man has been scheduled to face the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday, August 22.
