Man charged following CBD death

A fugitive arrested by police yesterday has been charged with the manslaughter of Seddon man, Andrew Truman.

Todd Menegaldo, 33, of no fixed address was arrested by police at a Moonee Ponds boarding house on Tuesday afternoon.

Last night detectives from the Homicide Squad charged Mr Menegaldo with the manslaughter of 44-year-old Mr Truman, who died in hospital after being assaulted in the Melbourne CBD earlier this month.

Mr Truman was walking on Elizabeth Street from Flinders Street on the evening of Wednesday, October 9 when its alleged he was approached and struck on the head by Mr Menegaldo at about 6.30pm.

He sustained significant head injuries and was taken to hospital in a critical condition, where he died on October 12.

Mr Menegaldo has been remanded in custody and will appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later today.
