Much-loved festival set for return

Williamstown Literary Festival is returning live to the Heritage Town Hall after a year of being online.

The 2021 Willy Lit Fest has modelled this year’s theme out of a lesson taken from 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic – silver lining.

The festival is one of Australia’s most respected “wordfests”, and attracts some of the country’s most well known and loved authors annually.

The festival is run by locals, and is supplemented by volunteers at festival time.

Program director Stella Kinsella announced the line-up of authors earlier this month, which includes Sarah Krasnostein, Sofie Laguna, Cassandra Pybus, Nardi Simpson, Laura Bloom, Rebecca Lim, Emily Gale, Claire Saxby, Amie Kaufman, Holden Sheppard, Lili Wilkinson, Alice Pung, Shokoofee Azar, and Yuot A Alack.

The festival’s opening night will feature Speakola’s Tony Wilson moderating a session with award-winning author and poet Tony Birch.

Brother and sister co-authors Hilde Hinton and Samuel Johnson OAM will sit down in conversation with ABC 774’s Jacinta Parsons for the closing night festivities.

The Williamstown Literary Festival will run from Friday, June 18 until Monday, June 21.

The event is set to take place in person at the Heritage Town Hall in Williamstown and “in the clouds”, otherwise known as online.
