Yarraville and Seddon mothers are encouraged to get moving with their children as part of local Kangatraining classes.

Local trainer Carly Brown said there were spots for 20 mothers to take part in the low-intensity interval training involving core strength exercises and low-level cardio exercise, with classes restarting after school holidays.

She said momentum had been “slowly building” after she had launched the program in Yarraville last November.

“It has definitely started to pick up,” Mrs Brown said.

“This is just beginning.”

She said the program delivers a number of benefits to mothers and their new-born children and toddlers in carriers, including rebuilding strength after childbirth and creating new social relationships with other local mothers, especially following the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I’m finding that a lot of the women are disconnected,” Mrs Brown said.

“The last few years have been tough.”

She said she is hoping to broaden the program to more western suburbs and more time slots as interest increases.

Toddlers are welcome to come and dance along during the sessions.

Classes are available 10am Tuesdays at the Seddon Uniting Hall, 2.30pm on Wednesdays at Everybody’s PT in Yarraville and 9.15am on Thursdays at The Project in Yarraville.

The first classes back from the school holidays will be Tuesday, July 12 in Seddon, Wednesday, July 13 at Everybody’s PT and Thursday, July 14 at The Project.
