New business directory to support LGBTIQA+ community

A new online tool has been launched to highlight inclusive businesses in Hobsons Bay.

Council has launched a rainbow business directory, showcasing local businesses that are rainbow-owned or rainbow-friendly.

The online resource is a result of feedback from the local LGBTIQA+ community that indicated the need for a dedicated business directory for community members in Hobsons Bay.

Businesses listed in the directory have been nominated by community members and verified by council officers.

Among them is Iridis Cosmetics, whose chief executive Peta-Gai McLaughlin expressed pride in being one of the first companies included in the new rainbow business directory.

“I think it is a great initiative by council,” Ms McLaughlin said of the directory.

“Being a queer business ourselves, we know there are many businesses that are incredibly supportive of our LGBTIQA+ community in Hobsons Bay, this directory helps highlight them.

“I hope more and more businesses get involved. I know for us it will be an opportunity to promote ourselves while also celebrating diversity and inclusion.”

Hobsons Bay mayor Daria Kellander thanked council officers, community members and participating businesses for bringing the rainbow directory about.

“This directory is another great way to support our LGBTIQA+ community in Hobsons Bay,” Cr Kellander said.

Rainbow-operated or friendly businesses wishing to be listed on the directory are encouraged to email: commdev@hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au

The directory can be found at: hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au/rainbowbusiness
