A new playground has opened in Hansen Reserve, West Footscray.
The new playground is designed around a ‘quarry theme’, which reflects the historic use of the site and incorporates a combination of natural materials including stone, timber and steel.
The equipment provides a range of options for children of all ages, with a four metre high enclosed slide, bridges, balance beams, swing sets, a climbing frame, trampolines and a sand pit.
The new playground comes with additional park furniture, barbeques, a shelter and a new shared use path.
Mayor Anthony Tran said the playground is a great new addition to the reserve and will be enjoyed by both locals and visitors.
“The playground is a wonderful place for children to come and explore and along with the wider surroundings provides a hub for play and sports, and for the community to gather and enjoy themselves.
With our population forecast to increase by 67 per cent by 2041, this new playground is a much needed open space for children now and well into the future.”
Hansen reserve has a new junior bike track and multiple sporting fields, and is home to the Kingsville Tennis Club, the North Footscray Football Cull and the Yarraville Cricket Club.
The remaining works at the reserve are expected to be completed in early 2022. This includes the installation of new irrigation, new grass for the picnic lawn, and removal of the old playground.
