Police hunt man after woman sexually assaulted at Laverton

A woman was forced to the ground in a terrifying sexual assault near Laverton train station.

Police have released an image of a man they want to speak in relation to the attack which happened between 2.45am and 3am on April 15.

Detective Senior Constable Mitch Montgomery, of the Hobsons Bay crime investigation unit, said the 22-year-old woman was followed after leaving the train station.

Police say a man followed the woman as she walked from the station and along Fitzroy Street.

“He’s followed her from somewhere in the railway station a few hundred metres across the freeway towards Fitzroy Street and then somewhere close to the footbridge, the assault’s happened there,” he said.

“He’s assaulted her and then she’s ended up on the ground, and that’s when she started screaming and he’s run off.”

Detective Senior Constable Montgomery said the man appeared to have returned.

“It looks like he might have followed her once she’s run off and she’s seen him again, but then nothing else has happened.”

Police have released an image of a man who they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.
