Altona Beach is a great spot for families to enjoy the warmer months, but there has been great potential for the surrounding space to be improved.

The redevelopment works that are happening in Pier Street and Weaver Reserve will make the area a safer and more inviting place over summer.

The upgrade of Pier Street itself will make what is already a great destination for diners and shoppers even more attractive.

Those streetscape improvement works will create safe pedestrian access across Queen Street and the Esplanade, and provide better pedestrian access along Pier Street thanks to the widening of the footpaths.

The works will also allow for outdoor dining and will increase the shade and canopy cover in the lower end of Pier Street.

The introduction of outdoor dining on Pier Street has been a great addition and has brought great life to that outdoor space.

After working with the community to get their ideas about improving Weaver Reserve, we have developed that area to create a consolidated green open space for gatherings, events and overflow space for the lifesaving club.

The new car park next to the reserve is now open and will allow many more people to access the beach and enjoy the surrounding area.

Stage 4 of the Pier Street redevelopment is expected to by mid-November, weather permitting, in time for the space to be enjoyed over summer.

At the top of Pier Street, from Monday, October 3, we’re opening the doors to the refurbished Hobsons Bay Civic Centre for two big weeks in October.

Come along for a tour of the new building, attend an event, or use the new co-lab working space.

The daily free tours will give you a sneak peek of what the new civic centre looks like and how you can use the space too.

There’s a lot happening, so check out hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au/showcase for event details.
