Musician Mike Brady, best known for his football anthem Up there Cazaly, has joined the board of Seaworks Foundation at Williamstown.
Brady will help promote the Seaworks site for recreational, educational, tourism and commercial activities.
“I’ve always had an interest in the ports of Williamstown and Melbourne and I have a particularly keen interest in the history of Williamstown, having had three boats kept at the former Penfolds Slipway in Nelson Place,” he said.
Brady’s maritime interest began as a child when an uncle took him to see Lord Nelson’s flagship HMS Victory in Portsmouth in his native England.
Brady resigned from Royal Brighton Yacht Club this year as he no longer has a boat, but over the past 30 years he has owned several and run a cruise boat in the Whitsunday Islands.
Seaworks Foundation chairman Trevor Huggard said Brady would help take Seaworks to the next level of its redevelopment.
“Mike brings strong government connections,” Mr Huggard said. “He has been a board member of Tourism Victoria and a number of charities.
“He also has one of the most creative minds in Australia, having spent many years developing advertising and promotional campaigns and working in the media.”
