West’s best light up comedy fest

Hayley Butcher.

Magic tricks and John Farnham tracks are just part of the fun as inner-west artists unveil their Melbourne International Comedy Festival shows.

Hayley Butcher’s comedy festival debut explores a new mum’s identity crisis … to the music of John Farnham.

Running from April 11 to 23 at the Forum Theatre’s Ladies Lounge, Pressure Down traces how John Farnham’s hits saved Butcher from a postnatal existential crisis, triggered by burnt dinners, terrifying park mums and back-handed comments from well-meaning in-laws.

Back for their third year at the famous Speigeltent, Alex and Luke are once again ready to cast their spell over Melbourne kids. At 2pm daily, Tuesday to Sunday until April 16, Make Your Parents Disappear! combines jaw-dropping magic with audience participation, wrapped up in a madcap story about two magic brothers devising solutions to childhood problems.

Seddon comedian Perri Cassie’s Channel Perri is on at The Unknown Union @ 1000 £ Bend, 361 Little Lonsdale Street, nightly from April 12-23, while on Saturday, April 8, a one-of-a-kind showcase will bring comedians from across Asia to Kindred Studios, Footscray.

It will feature the talents of Rizal van Geyzel (Malaysia), Neeti Palta (India), Douglas Lim (Malaysia), Jinx Yeo (Singapore) and Sumit Anand (India). Bookings: comedyfestival.com.au or 1300 660 013.
