A new application has been lodged for a four-storey apartment block on the site of a service station opposite Williamstown Town Hall.
A previous application for 97 Ferguson Street was refused by Hobsons Bay council then by the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT).
A report prepared for developer Noordenne Constructions states plans have been amended in response to VCAT’s ruling.
Current plans show 14 dwellings and three retail premises, with a reduction in carparking requirements and a waiver of loading bay requirements.
Save Williamstown spokeswoman Suzanne Orange said the proposal was an overdevelopment for the site.
“The … planned construction is an overdevelopment of huge proportions when considering the Ferguson Street heritage precinct,” Ms Orange said.
“Twenty-four carparks are supplied, 38 are required, and there is no provision for loading and unloading of commercial vehicles.”
“The Hobsons Bay planning scheme requires new infill buildings, alterations and additions to existing buildings to be compatible in scale, siting, design, form and materials with the character of the heritage place or precinct.
“It is about five metres taller than it should be and I don’t know of any sandstone-clad buildings in the area.”
