THE Western Bulldogs have asked members to provide feedback on the name of their own Victorian Football League team, which inaugurates in 2014.
The club has asked supporters through its website to simply vote on whether the team should be called ‘Western’ or ‘Footscray’.
The Bulldogs changed their AFL name to Western in 1996 to better represent the greater western suburbs.

For the VFL team, which ends its alignment with Williamstown at the end of this season and plays the majority of its games at the Whitten Oval in Footscray, reverting back to the traditional name makes sense for some members.
“We want to hear from our members what they think is the best name for our VFL team in 2014 – a team that will see the development of our emerging stars well into the future,” Bulldogs president Peter Gordon said on the club’s website.
“I know that to many members Footscray is a name that is close to your hearts, while there is a whole generation that has only known, and will embrace, the Western Bulldogs.”
