VFL: Kane Lambert best on ground as Williamstown thrashes Essendon

Williamstown continued its hot form in the VFL with a 71-point annihilation of Essendon at Highgate Recreation Reserve in Craigieburn on Saturday.

The Seagulls extended their lead at every break to make it five wins in succession. Kane Lambert capped a best-on-ground display with three goals, while Ben Jolley, Leigh Masters and Adam Marcon found plenty of the ball.

Sean Tighe was dangerous around goal with three majors.

The Seagulls are perched nicely in fourth spot and can just about seal the double chance with a win against the Northern Blues at Burbank Oval on Sunday.

Footscray was nearly flawless in its 131-point victory over Bendigo Gold at Whitten Oval on Sunday.

The Bulldogs restricted the country side to just one goal while piling on the pain at the other end. Liam Jones, Jarrad Grant and Ayce Cordy booted four goals apiece for the Bulldogs.

The Dogs can clinch a double chance with a win at Werribee on Sunday.
