Altona follows first-up win with a hiccup

Altona has experienced a mixed bag so far in Bowls Victoria premier division.

The A’s undid all the hard work of their first-round win in an 81-70 loss to Melbourne at Civic Parade on Saturday.

The rinks were split two apiece, but Melbourne comfortably had the better overall score, reaping 14 points to four.

The four points were enough for Altona to remain fourth, ahead of a trip this Saturday to Essendon, also on 1-1.

Yarraville-Footscray is one of only two undefeated teams left in the premier division after two rounds.

The Bulldogs had a memorable 83-65 road win over Bundoora RSL on Saturday.

The three-rink-to-one victory saw the Bulldogs claim 16 points to two.

Yarraville-Footscray will play away to MCC, one of six teams with a 1-1 record so far, on Saturday.

In division 2, Altona Sports was like a wrecking ball going through Williamstown in a 125-49 win at home.

The ladder-leading Sports are a perfect two-from-two with 34 points and a score difference of plus-105.

In division 3, Rosamond had a tough time of it in an 82-53 away loss to Deer Park, but remains high on the ladder in third.

In division 4, Footscray Park had a narrow 98-91 victory over Newport for a 2-0 start to the season.

Altona North beat Altona Sports (2) in a derby 90-67, while Laverton enjoyed an 83-70 win over Williamstown (2).
