Williamstown’s tough run in the Victorian Football League continued on Saturday, this time against a resurgent Essendon side.
The Bombers, who lost their first eight games, have been one of the form teams in the competition in recent weeks.
On Saturday at Williamstown Oval, it was an even start with scores locked at 3.2 apiece at quarter time.
The Bombers opened up a little bit of a break in the second quarter with five goals to two and extended that in the third quarter, to lead by 30 points at the break.
Both teams had their chances in the last quarter, with the Bombers having nine scoring shorts to seven.
The Bombers were able to come away with the win, 16.14 (110)-10.12 (72).
Joel Ottavi kicked three goals for the Seagulls, while Hayden Bertoli-Simmonds chipped in with two goals.
Teia Miles continued to rack up the ball, having 30 possessions, while Liam Hunt and Nicholas Mellington also had plenty of the ball.
The Seagulls sit bottom of the table, with just one win.
Meanwhile, Footscray had a good win against Hawthorn.
The Bulldogs jumped out of the blocks with five goals to none in the first quarter and continued on in the second quarter.
They led by 49 points at half time.
The second half was a better one from the Hawks, as they kicked four goals apiece. The Bulldogs won, 14.10 (94)-6.10 (46).
The Bulldogs sit 14th on the ladder.
